Bill Sykes

Isolation buddy Bill Sykes strangely befriended me during lockdown in Kenya. My home lies on the periphery of the Karura Forest in Nairobi.

It didn’t take long for him to feel safe enough to nap inside the balcony doorway and it was at this point I started making portraits of him. I created some house rules. No food and no coming past the carpet.

Occasionally he knocks over a vase, intermittently he shows his teeth but most of the time he watches me at home in lockdown. He’s gentle and polite mostly.

It became an unexpected photographic study on one individual. And socially Two primates watching each other in strange circumstances.
