Elephant Dust

Elephant Dust, Sheldrick, Tsavo ~ USD 500

An orphaned elephant plays in the rich red dust of Tsavo, in Tsavo East National Park, Kenya. This elephant, currently a teenager, was hand raised by humans and is now living a completely wild life thanks to the incredible reintegration programme of the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust. The image was taken in 2012 whilst working on an IMAX movie ~ Born To Be Wild. 50% of the image price will be donated back to the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust.

The Suguta Valley is an other-worldly ecosystem of soda lakes, sand dunes, giant crocodiles, desert ungulates, alkaline ponds and thousands of flamingos. The area has little to no road access and so to experience it’s magic makes for a once in a lifetimer.

Zebra Grid, Northern Kenya ~ USD 500

This was a collaborative project with the Grevy’s Zebra Trust in 2016. The Grevy’s Zebra is critically endangered animal different to the more common planes zebra. They are an ass not a horse and are largest of the wild Equidae family. With just a few thousand Grevy’s remaining in the wild the majority of their population inhabit US Zoos. 50% of the image price will be donated back to the Grevy’s Zebra Trust.

I felt like I was in a Miyazaki movie, whimsically flying amongst a million exotic pink feathered dinosaurs over a crystal lake. Flamingo’s come here in the hundreds of thousands to thrive in the caustic soda environment, uninhabitable to most other species. Taken over Lake Logipi, Northern Kenya.

Isolation buddy Bill Sykes strangely befriended me during our Kenyan covid days. My hunch was that his friendship wasn’t entirely pure. Occasionally he’s steal a bunch of bananas, intermittently he’d show his teeth but most of the time he’d just watch me in lock-down. Kind of like a primatologist studying an ape in an enclosure.
