Pashupatinath Is one of the most peaceful environments I’ve been. It’s also the place were Kathmandu burns it’s dead on the banks of the Bagmati River. Elderly Hindus are known to journey to the temple in advance and preparation for their own death. It’s a World Heritage site and one of Nepal’s most sacred places.

A portrait of Sandrine practicing the trumpet on the edge of Dandora Dump in Korogocho, Kenya. Sandrine is one of 600+ students who have enrolled in the Ghetto Classics music programme. Through the music school, under privileged children are given the opportunity to become classical musicians. The music school borders Kenya’s biggest landfill which takes up an estimated 30 acres. It’s an environmental hazard where properties bordering it, including the music school, regularly breathe in toxic smoke.

In the heart of Garamba lives a community of people who share a wild habitat in arguably Africa’s oldest National Park. The school pictured was built by African Parks and now runs independently. School rules stipulated that the kids sweep their own yard before the first bell.

Avenue of the Baobabs, Morondava, Madagascar ~ USD 400

Herders move with their zebu through the baobabs. The trees known locally as Renala which translates from malagasy as ‘mother of the forest’, they reach up to 98ft tall and are estimated at 2,800 years old.

A Walk In the Park, Sunday Best At Weekend Studio ~ USD 400

Sunday Best describes a person’s finest clothing worn on special occasions. On Sundays in Kenya, this elegance is ubiquitous. I fatefully walked into Kiberas oldest photo studio days before it was to close for ever. Weekend Studio opened in Kibera in 1980 in one of Nairobi’s largest informal settlements. The photographer who leased the studio for 37 years, told me that due to phone cameras few wanted studio portraits and clients generally requested for passport photographs. The photographer had decided to retire and return home to family. Troubled by it’s end, I ultimately took over the hire and worked over numerous Sundays (& some Saturdays) during the course of 2018. The series received 12 international awards and this individual portrait won Life Framers – Open Call competition in 2018.

Adam somersaults from the bars of a climbing frame in Nairobi’s Uhuru Park as children watch. Adam learned parkour from YouTube videos, initially practicing his moves on a mattress of banana leaves and cut grass. He is now a leading figure in Kenya’s parkour movement.

Photographed leaving church in Garamba Headquarters, DRC. These women live and work in one of the toughest places in the world on the border of South Sudan and the DRC. The area is protected by African Parks and the Congolese army and is frequented by armed rebels from the region.

Zebra Scout Elder, Northern Kenya ~ USD 500

Portrait of a wise elder from the Samburu Tribe in Northern Kenya. He forms part of a team from Kenya’s Northern Range lands who are protecting the last few thousand Grevy’s Zebras on the planet. The Zebra People exhibition showed at the National Museum of Kenya in the month of February 2016 and was in collaboration with the Grevy’s Zebra Trust. 50% of the proceeds of this sale will go to the Grevy’s Zebra Trust.
